Denmark as a Maritime Nation
September 27th from 9.00
Duration: Approx. 7 hrs
Meeting point: Scandic Copenhagen
Max capacity: 100
The tour programme is subject to change.
On this tour through North Zealand you will learn why Denmark is a strong Maritime Nation. Drive from Copenhagen, following the cost up to Elsinor, where Kronborg Castle and the Maritime Museum of Denmark is situated. From a distance it is almost invisible, but below ground, in the middle of the newly renovated Culture Harbour Kronborg in Elsinore and neighbouring the majestic Kronborg Castle, is Denmark’s maritime museum, the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark. If one follows the gently sloping bridges down to the old dry dock, one will experience one of the recent year’s most spectacular new buildings in Denmark. The M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark tells the story of Denmark as one of the world’s leading maritime nations, in an evocative and dramatic way.

Lunch will be at Marienlyst Hotel and next stop is Kronborg Castle, also known as Hamlets castle. Kronborg Castle is one of the most well preserved renaissance castles in Northern Europe. It faces towards Oresund, from where you can see all the way to Sweden. Kronborg Castle is world known from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. For 400 years the castle was the headquarter for the collection of the sound dues. Kronborg was a legend in its heyday in the late 1500s. With its menacing guns pointing directly at the ships in the sound, sailors did not dare to sail past the castle without paying the king his sound dues. On the way back to Copenhagen, we will pass by beautiful churches, castles, exciting architecture and much more.
